Happy October!

First day of October! It's finally here! And.. it's been raining for 3 days straight. I do love rainy, fall days, but I really planned on doing some outdoor decorating today! I feel like I'm so behind! Oh well, hopefully tomorrow is better. I did get up extra early for a church rummage, where I only spent $1.25 - unfortunately there was a huge mob of people and they were selling mostly newer stuff. I did manage to score some goodies today at a few picked over estate sales and a rummage sale.

 Cute cat figurines.

 Floating candles.

An unopened package of made in Japan Styrofoam Easter chicks. .25 cents!

One of my favorite things to find: plastic clothespins!

Really adorable recipe box. Now if I could find a matching bread box..

Knickerbocker toys: a pink chick, and a stork rattle.

Some eighties today: a Care Bear Cousin, a chipmunk, Gloworm, cabbage patch kid, and half of a Nerful!

Some old ornament caps. You never know when you'll need a Shiny Brite cap!

Libbey frosted ice tea glasses. These are addictive!

Four red and white striped Hazel Atlas drink glasses and a gold drink holder: $3.00!

I saw these in a picture ad for a rummage sale at around 2:00pm. I expected it to be long gone! So happy it wasn't!

Baret Ware tin. I'm always a sucker for Baret Ware.

I got this at the same rummage as the drink holder/glass cups. Also $3.00. It works great! I needed a "new" kitchen radio.

Dennison paper die cut. The cat is too cute.

Another Dennison die cut. I have a smaller version of this too.

My favorite find of the day. A glass JOL lantern. I actually tried to bid on one of these a few months ago on ebay (I lost when the price went over $30.00). I only paid $1.99 for it. It does have a hole in the glass though. Our little secret! ;-)

Bummer. But it displays nicely in my vintage Halloween cabinet - you can't really tell it's cracked from the front, which is a good thing. I tested the light with some fresh batteries, and it doesn't work. I think I need to pick up a new bulb

 A happy pair of JOLs!

Cute little recipe booklet. The colors are what grabbed my attention.

My October kitchen cart set up. Lots of oranges, yellows, and reds.

You can even see my orange Pyrex nesting bowl. :-)

I also displayed my 2016 Halloween Pyrex. They have them at Target for $5.00 a piece - black cats, sugar skulls, and owls.

More Halloween on the top of my kitchen display cabinet. The poofy owl cracks me up!

And finally, a picture of Nermal the Cat. His favorite spot to take a late afternoon nap.

Spooky, scary, Halloweenie

Hey all. Sorry for the huge gap between postings. I'll admit it; I've been lazy. I definitely have to put some time aside over the weekend to post some recent finds. Halloween has been on my mind, so that's where my main focus has been at the thrifts. I haven't been to many estate sales or rummages - I'm just not finding things I really want to spend the money on. Hopefully I'll be posting some fun Halloween pictures over the next few weeks, since it is my favorite time of year. :)

My current living-room cabinet display - vintage Halloween is the best!

Hot in the city

It's HOT here in Milwaukee. Today was 92 degrees, and the next two days are going to be even hotter. I don't know if I'll get around to doing any thrifting in the heat; my car's AC is broken, and it's like driving around in a toaster oven. Yuck. I can't wait until Fall gets here. I know it's bad to say, because it's one step closer to another long, cold winter.. but Fall is my favorite time of year. To hell with the heat! Literally.

Here's some goodies I found this week.

Frosted blue pitcher and drinking glass set.

More frosted glassware.. I feel like I'm missing a purple glass, but I looked everywhere at the Goodwill where I found these. No dice.

Triangular Inland Glass carafe/pitcher. I usually pass up on these because the gold foil is sometimes in bad shape, but this one was in good condition. It's such an interesting shape too!

 Shawnee pink pottery.

'Shasta Daisy' glass. I looked it up on ebay.com, and it's listed as a Boscul peanut butter glass.

Fire King white swirl bowls. I'm not usually a fan of the white glass, but the swirl gives it some extra oomph.

John Middleton tobacco tins. .50 cents a piece at Goodwill.

A chalk-ware fruit trio. The apple is now cracked in half, as one of my darling cats decided it would be fun to push it over the side of the kitchen table. I'm just happy it wasn't the cherry one.

Finally, a Strawberry Shortcake tray. It was .50 cents at Habitat for Humanity ReStore.

Back to reality

Another July vacation has come and gone. Back to work again.. I had a great time last week, though it was hard going back to the grind this past Monday. I had today off, but I have to work Saturday. It's only until noon, but still. It does put a black-spot on the overall weekend.

I got a ton of great junk while up north (northern Wisconsin). But... I discovered a few accidents when I arrived back in Milwaukee - some of the junk didn't survive the trip home. I lost a really nice Hazel Atlas Tom and Jerry eggnog bowl - all 17 mugs survived the trip somehow. I also lost a cute anthropomorphic ceramic orange bell, and ended up chipping a glass pitcher that I bought. Next time: bubble wrap. Newspaper wrapping just isn't safe enough for the long, bumpy ride home!

In other news, I'm trying to distract myself from starting to shop for Halloween treasures. I am a Halloween junkie, and I always start to get in the mood around July since some of the stores start putting their stock out. Michael's craft store already has some Halloween merchandise out and I'm trying really hard not to go there and spend money. It's even more tempting to stop at Home Goods and TJ Max - they always have really awesome decorations. I'm already listening to a certain playlist on Spotify... Bauhaus, Oingo Boingo, Concrete Blonde, Siouxsie & the Banshees, London After Midnight.. OK I need to stop. :-)

And on with the happy junk parade:

Hazel Atlas maple leaf mug and bowl.

Balky the Donkey has a new friend: Milky the Cow!

Christmas in July. I got a lot of great vintage Christmas stuff since most of the thrifts had a small vintage section set up for the month.

Federal glass gingham mug and a Fire King tulip cottage cheese bowl.

I got several really nice tableclothes! I'll have to make a post dedicated to them.

 Cutest potholders ever. Ever.

 Baret Ware tray.

Chalkware - doggies and bunnies.

A chalkware rooster. I tried to hang it in my kitchen, but the hook on the back of it is in a really bad spot, so the poor rooster hangs sideways.

And more chalkware.. I love their cheeky expressions.

Lefton pink Christmas bird salt and pepper shakers. They have a few tiny chips, but they aren't very noticeable. I wish I could find some of the Lefton bluebirds.

 Vintage dishtowels.

 Hankies!

 More hankies!

Metal noisemakers are my newest obsession.

 Tiny Kirchhof clickers.

The frog clicker is my favorite. But I also like the clown.

Siestaware mug, and some nifty hammered aluminum drinking tumblers.

The Pocket Fortune Teller - the first version of the Magic 8-ball!

 Neat cursive replies.

Green glass measuring cup. It has a small chip, but c'mon, it was .10 cents.

Vintage cookie cutters. I have quite a large collection of them! These are only the ones that I found last week!

The plastic Charlie Brown ones are cute.

 Salt and pepper shakers.

Both deers for $1.00? Yes please!

These make me want to drink some tea!

The only Pyrex I've found lately. I found absolutely no Pyrex worth buying last week - I found these today at the Salvation Army for $2.99 and .69 cents. They cleaned up real purty too.

The bird graphics are so adorable!

I also found another metal storage cabinet today. It was $6.99 at Goodwill, plus I got a 15% scratch off discount. I also found a brown wood-grain Cosco bar cart today for $9.99 in perfect condition.

Nice little kitchen scale I got at a thrift store for $5.00.

So, all in all, it was a good haul. What do you think? Happy thrifting!
